PERINATAL

Why would I see a chiropractor during pregnancy?

Pregnancy asks a lot of your body. As your posture, center of gravity, and hormones shift, it’s common to feel pelvic pain, low back pain, rib or round ligament discomfort, or pressure that makes it hard to move or sleep. As a Webster Technique trained chiropractor, I use this pregnancy-specific approach to help balance the pelvis and surrounding ligaments, ease tension in the hips, back, and diaphragm, and create more space and comfort for both you and baby as you grow and prepare for birth.

Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?

Yes. I use pregnancy-specific techniques, an adjusting instrument that uses very little pressure, and positioning that keeps you and baby safe and supported. The table and pillows are adjusted for your stage of pregnancy, and I always work within your comfort level. The goal is not to “force” anything, but to gently guide your body toward better alignment and function.

When should I start chiropractic care in pregnancy, and how often will I need to come?

You can start at any point in pregnancy: early on to support comfort and alignment from the start, or later if pain or tension has already shown up. Frequency depends on your history, how you’re feeling, and what’s going on with your pelvis and spine. For some, that’s occasional tune-ups; for others, it’s more regular care in the third trimester. I’ll always be transparent about what I’m seeing and we’ll decide on a plan together.

How can perinatal chiropractic care support postpartum recovery and breastfeeding?

After birth, your body is healing while you’re also feeding, holding, and caring for a newborn around the clock. That combo can create neck, shoulder, low back, and pelvic pain, as well as tension patterns that make certain positions miserable. Postpartum chiropractic care helps restore pelvic and spinal alignment, ease the strain from feeding and baby-wearing, and support your nervous system in this massive transition. With my lactation background, I also keep an eye on how your body mechanics and comfort impact breastfeeding.
