Your baby’s nervous system starts developing long before your due date. Here’s how gentle, pregnancy-specific care fits into that story.
The short answer
Webster Technique care focuses on balancing your pelvis and the ligaments around it, easing tension in your hips, back, and diaphragm, and creating more room and comfort for you and your baby as you grow. Your baby’s nervous system is already developing in the womb, and birth is one of its first big physical events. Caring for your body during pregnancy is part of supporting a smoother start for both of you.
So, what is the Webster Technique?
The Webster Technique is a pregnancy-specific chiropractic approach. It looks at the balance of the sacrum (the base of the spine) and pelvis, plus the muscles and ligaments that support the uterus.
When these are tight or uneven, pregnancy can feel more uncomfortable, and your baby may have less room to settle. Webster care is gentle, uses positioning designed for pregnant bodies, and can be part of your care at any stage of pregnancy.
Your baby’s story starts before birth
Development doesn’t begin on your due date. A few examples of what’s already underway:
- Feeling: the ability to sense comfort and discomfort develops during the third trimester.
- Rhythm: a gentle rhythmic motion of the fluid around the brain and spinal cord is already happening in the womb, before your baby’s first breath.
- Shape: your baby’s spine begins in a C-shaped curve. The neck and low-back curves form later, through tummy time, sitting, and crawling.
Your baby is growing inside your body, so your comfort, balance, and stress levels are part of their environment.
Caring for yourself in pregnancy isn’t indulgent. Your body is your baby’s first home, and a calmer, more comfortable you is part of the care.

Where birth fits in
Research on healthy newborns (Waddington et al., 2015) found that tension patterns were common across delivery modes, and that the overall amount was related to the length of labor rather than how the baby was delivered.
No one can guarantee how labor will go. Supporting a balanced, comfortable pelvis during pregnancy is simply one thoughtful way to prepare your body for the work of birth.
What to expect at your visit
- Your story first. How far along you are, how you’re feeling, and anything your OB or midwife has shared.
- Pregnancy-friendly positioning, so you’re comfortable throughout.
- Gentle Webster assessment and adjustments focused on your sacrum, pelvis, and the soft tissue around them.
- Care that continues after birth. I can gently assess your baby for tension from delivery, and as an IBCLC I can help with feeding, too.
One continuous story
This is why I care for families across the whole perinatal season. Prenatal visits support your comfort and balance. After birth, seeing both of you lets me understand the full picture.
Questions parents ask
Is Webster chiropractic safe during pregnancy?
Webster care is designed specifically for pregnancy and uses gentle, adapted techniques. Always keep your OB or midwife informed about your care.
When should I start prenatal chiropractic care?
You can start at any point. Many people begin when discomfort appears, and others start in the second or third trimester to prepare for birth.
Can you see my baby after I deliver?
Yes. Newborn visits can begin in the first days of life, and your prenatal history helps guide your baby’s care.
